Overview

MyFax is an online fax service operated by Consensus Cloud Solutions, the company that also runs eFax — Consensus was spun off from J2 Global (now Ziff Davis) in October 2021, and both fax brands came with it. Within that family, MyFax is positioned as the simpler, lower-priced option: its entry plan costs $12/month against $18.99 for eFax’s entry plan, with fewer enterprise trimmings.

MyFax’s own pitch is simplicity — “all of MyFax’s powerful features” are included on every plan, so the three tiers differ only in how many pages you can send and receive each month.

Plans, Pricing, and the Free Trial

MyFax sells three plans, and — unusually among the services we review — each one carries a separate sending allowance and receiving allowance rather than a single pooled number:

• Home Office — $12/month: send 100 pages + receive 100 pages
• Small Business — $25/month: send 300 pages + receive 300 pages
• Power User — $45/month: send 600 pages + receive 600 pages

Annual prepayment lowers the advertised effective rates (to $8.25, $20.83, and $37.50 per month respectively). Additional pages cost $0.10 each for faxing within the United States; international sending is billed at per-page rates published on MyFax’s send-rates page. A 14-day free trial is offered, there are no long-term contracts, and MyFax’s FAQ confirms you can cancel online from your account (or via chat and email support).

One note on our comparison data: the plan cards on this page show each plan’s sending allowance — remember that MyFax adds an equal, separate receiving allowance on top of that figure.

Sending and Receiving Faxes

MyFax covers all three standard ways to fax: the web portal (MyFax Central), email-to-fax, and a mobile app. For email-to-fax, you address the message to the destination number followed by @send.myfax.com — the number must include country and area code with no spaces — and MyFax’s FAQ says an account can send and receive from up to 5 email addresses (full walkthrough in our email-to-fax guide). MyFax documents support for more than 150 file formats including PDF, Word, and Excel; on the per-fax attachment limit, its public pages currently disagree (the FAQ says eight documents, the mobile-app page ten), so check your account before batching files. Broadcasting is supported at up to 9 numbers per email fax, or up to 50 through MyFax Central. Delivery confirmations with transmission details are available if enabled.

Received faxes arrive in your email inbox as attachments, with a copy kept in MyFax Central — and receiving draws on its own allowance, not your sending pages.

MyFax Central: The Account Portal

A large share of MyFax searches are really about MyFax Central, the web portal for existing customers. It is where you send and manage faxes online, view usage reports, build custom cover pages, manage contacts, and search your fax archive. On how long that archive keeps faxes, MyFax’s pages currently disagree — the account-portal page says faxes are stored for the life of your account, while the receive guide says storage runs up to 366 days — so confirm the current retention policy in your account before relying on the archive. If you’re just trying to log in, the official MyFax Central sign-in page is at central.myfax.com; your login ID can be your MyFax number, signup email address, or account ID.

Number Porting

MyFax supports porting in an existing fax number, and porting is free of charge. Plan for the realistic timeline, though: MyFax’s own FAQ says porting “usually takes between four and six weeks” once the authorization form is in — typical for fax number transfers, and MyFax assigns a temporary number you can use in the meantime. As with any port, keep your old line active until the transfer is confirmed.

Compliance and Security

MyFax states that email-to-fax transmissions are secured with 256-bit AES encryption. For regulated healthcare work, however, read MyFax’s own FAQ carefully: it points customers who need HIPAA-compliant cloud faxing to its sibling product, eFax Corporate. MyFax does not advertise a Business Associate Agreement, so we treat it as not suitable for PHI workflows — teams that need a BAA should compare SRFax or the dedicated HIPAA options in our comparison.

The Value Question

At $12/month for 100 sent + 100 received pages, MyFax sits in an awkward spot: Fax.Plus offers 200 pages for $8.99/month on month-to-month billing (or $6.99/month billed annually), and adds capabilities MyFax doesn’t offer at all — a fax API, Sign.Plus e-signature integration, and a HIPAA path on its Enterprise tier. If your faxing is send-heavy, the gap widens. The practical case for MyFax is the combination of free number porting, identical features on every tier, and the Consensus/eFax corporate family behind it.

Who Should Choose MyFax?

Choose MyFax if you’re moving off a physical fax machine, want to keep your number, and value simplicity over extras — there’s no e-signature tool or developer API here, and that’s the point. For most other users, Fax.Plus or RingCentral Fax deliver more capability per dollar.
